Sunday Blues
Why does Sunday seem to come so quickly?
So this past week has been crazy busy. I continued to unpack a bit, built a dresser....from Ikea.... yeah... You know those stories you hear about Ikea furniture?? totally.... TRUE! It was weird, it seemed simple, but for some reason was surprisingly difficult. It was an enigma! But alas, I got it finished and it's now holding a bunch of junk!!! YEAH!!!!
So this past week we had 2 staff meetings, 1 night of parent teacher, 1 Valentines Dance, 1 day of volunteering at a Basketball Tournament, 1 night of swimming, and 1 Saturday night party! Whew, I am tuckered...
The classes are going well. The kids are great. I think it's better because I have been with them since the beginning of this term, whereas last term I was their 5th teacher so there was no real structure in the classroom. On Thursday I took one of my classes and we joined the same grade (different class) in the Foods room and made Colour Wheel Cookies! It was great. They all got a short intro on the colour wheel and then had to make it (primary, secondary, tertiary) using icing, and then arrange 12 cookies in the proper order. It was funny because I guess have more rules then the foods teacher so their normal class was not into me, lol. They were like, we never want her to teach us again.... lol... Whereas my class was like, You are our favorite teacher EVER! Oh Perspective....
So the party last Saturday night was amazing. I had such a great time. I met some great people and hung out with them again this weekend. In fact, myself and the hosts from the party last weekend went to another party together this weekend. It was nice, not quite the party from last weekend, but it was still nice to just get out and meet new people. I am really trying to establish a friend system here so I am trying to go to events and parties and mingle.
I also went swimming again on Friday. It was great, very few people, and the hot tub was free so we got a good 15 min of hot tub time...mmmm.... hot tubs.....
I also did some painting this past week. I did 2 paintings for an auction. I knew only one was going, but I can never just paint one... what if I hated it!!! So I did two and then let one of the organizers choose. I hope that someone bought it.... eeeeee..... I told a friend of mine that if no one bid on it, to at least bid 10 bucks and that I would pay him back, lol.
Well I guess that's it for another week.
6 down 20 to go...

♫ 'Cause Saturday night's the night I like ♫
I love Saturday's!!
I mean come on, who doesn't!?!
So this week seemed to fly by. My belongings arrived on Tuesday and the first thing I did was set up my bed. Man on man, you don't realize how much you miss things like that until they are gone for a month! I really have never slept better than how I have since Tuesday. On that first day, along with my bed I unpacked my fan and my Humidifier. Wow, what a difference they have made. On Wednesday morning when I woke up and touched my light switch I was no longer greeted by an insanely intense shock, just a good ol normal light switch. Now, once I am walking around for a bit the shocks come back, but not having that morning fear (and it was becoming a fear, lol) is great. It's kinda funny. I have actually turned to using a plastic ruler to type keys on my computer in class because the shocks are getting to be too much. I was talking to a fellow teacher about the shocks and he informed me that we are actually drier than a desert here in January and February. Like, seriously, DRIER THAN A DESERT!
Other than that, I haven't done too much unpacking. I just can't really get the will up to do it, it's pathetic. :P
On Friday night T and I decided to go to the Midnight Sun Complex to go swimming. During the evenings they have adult swim from 9:15-10:15. It's actually awesome! They turn off the overhead lights, light up the pool with in ground lights, crank the music and its friggin' awesome! It's not intimidating because it's darker and there are not a whole lot of people there. It was pretty fun. We are going to try to go swimming every week, something to do to work out, and at the same time just get out of the house and do different things.
Tonight I am going over to someones house for a party. It should be fun, there will be a lot of co-workers there so hopefully it'll be a good way to meet/socialize outside school. I'll let you know how it goes......

♫ And Sunday always comes too late ♫
Wow, 4 down, 22 to go.
So some of you may have noticed a change in my blog. First of all, you all had to be invited to be read this (you are all soooo special) and secondly, if you go back and read what I wrote (which I doubt you will, as you already read it) you will notice some differences. Basically, in a nut shell, (help I'm in a nut shell, how do I get out of this nutshell - a la Austin Powers) I got in a wee bit of trouble for writing a blog and being "inappropriate", you know with all my talk about wine, and men, and saying I had a bad day. SO.... needless to say, I changed it. Initially, I went back and took out all the things that I was told I had to remove, then I realized I could make it a private blog, via invite only, so now this is where we sit. Invite Only. It's a shame because I was really enjoying seeing where all the readers were coming from, all over the world really, but alas, what has to be done, has to be done.
This past week were exams at the school and with that meant no classes. It was a time for me to clean/organize the classroom, do an inventory of stock, and get my class/curriculum planned out. Well, only 2 of those things got finished so here I sit on Sunday night in front of my laptop trying to plan out my entire year. Now lets be honest, that will not happen. But I have a really good start and I am happy with where I am. I did get the classroom completely gutted and feel great about the progress that happened there this past week. The room looks great considering my time restraints and I have an order all set and ready to go. It'll be great to get all the new supplies in!!! Yeah!! Art Supplies!! I could seriously spend a fortune on art supplies, it's kind of an addiction.
So tomorrow I start with all new students. I know that I will have all the same grades 7-12 but I don't really know too much about the students. I am looking forward to meeting my classes and seeing the talent that comes shinin' through. Seriously, there are some really talented kids up here. Art/Craft is a large part of the culture up here and it shows.
This past weekend T and I went to a community flea market. I was hoping that there would be some local art and craft but there was none in site. It was in the Midnight Sun complex and the tables were free so I really thought some local artists would take advantage of that because I know they would have back in Fredericton, but nope, it was all baby clothes and kids toys. T and I probably spent all of 4 min there. Seriously. 4 min. We walked the loop and left, it was funny and sad all at the same time.
Then we split up as she had some things to do so I walked down the main road to the bookstore to see if there was anything of interest. There are a lot of tourist type books, and things on the local environment/people but nothing in the way of contemporary fiction. So I grabbed a sears catalog (it was the only thing free) and headed to the cafe solo. When I entered the lady was like "hey girl, how you doing today" (YEAH THEY KNOW ME) but they do not know my drink yet (give me time.....) I got my usual Chai Latte and just texted/looked at the catalog/texted some more and hung out there by myself. It was relaxing. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon, as there are normally more people there, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
After that I came home and have been here ever since. My belongings have not yet arrived and I look forward to when they do as I packed a bunch of books. No offense to the Sears catalog, but I can only stare at people dressed in tacky sweaters for so long before I want to fall asleep or burn the pages for heat in our wood stove.
Well, that's pretty much it. Not too much excitement here. Oh, I am going to be going On The Land. (yes it is supposed to be in capital letters) for a night sometime in the next few months. (May 5th I think) I'll be going On The Land with a local guide where we may be checking out some traps, learning to skin small animals, and learning about local culture. Fun eh!! Can you picture me skinning animals and preparing them? Don't worry, it will all be documented, including my horrified expressions via photos....but be sure, I will do it! Experience new cultures when they present themselves!!

Sunday comes and Sunday Goes, Sunday always seems to move so slow.....
Another weekend has come and gone.
3 weeks down 23 to go.....
So this weekend was pretty good, relaxing even. I finally got to get some laundry done, and cleaned my room a bit in the the hopes that my furniture will arrive this week. I can't wait until my bed arrives, it will be so nice to be back in my own comfy nest.
On Saturday T and I went to the Cafe, for our 3rd week in a row. It is great having something that I know I can look forward to every week. We spend an hour or two there and it's my most normal part of the whole week. We also went into the stores to pick up a few things and I took some photos of prices and things available in the local store.
On Sunday night I went to the friend of a friends for dinner. I had a good time and the food was so great. He and his roommate seem to be good people and I am glad I met them. It's been a little bit difficult to meet people up here. I mean don't get me wrong, I have met some really nice people, but most people seem to have come up here with some sort of support base, be it a friend or spouse, etc. and I didn't. I am glad I came, I just look forward to the day that I feel I know more people.
Today I slept in, which is not too hard to do considering it is so dark out, and it was great waking up on my own instead of because of a loud alarm.
It's been insanely cold up here lately, sitting in the -40's. I have had to revert back to my contact lenses because the glasses are to difficult to deal with. After walking around outside for 30 seconds they fog up to the point where you can't see anything. And in regards to fog, we have been existing in what is called Ice Fog lately. It's when it is so cold that the air can't escape so it stays low on the ground as fog. (Wiki explains it as: Ice fog is a type of fog consisting of fine ice crystals suspended in the air. It can happen only in cold areas of the world since water can remain liquid down to -40 °C (-40 °F) ). It's pretty cool. But today there was only a light mist so maybe it's on it's way out....
